RULER

Dear Members:
First
and foremost, a huge THANK YOU to the
HOPES – the back bar is finished, and it looks
wonderful! If you haven’t seen it yet, you need to
stop by and have lunch or a
drink. We also have our new
Lottery machine installed. |
|
It was
up and running on May 1, and one of our
members won $7,777 on May 11.
Stop in and get your daily or weekly
lottery tickets. We sell everything
that the Arizona State Lottery has to
offer. Who knows – you
may be our next big winner.
Most of
our Officers were in Tempe from May 19
through May 22 for the Arizona Elks
Association State Convention. There
were a lot of meetings and the
installation of new state officers. As most of you know,
Lee Schwein is our outgoing State President, and our
Lodge is proud to have had its
first State President in the history
of our Lodge. Our 50th Anniversary and
our first State President, all in one
year. Way to go, Lee – thank
you for making our Lodge shine.
The Arizona Elks Major Projects is raffling off a new
2010 Mustang. The tickets are
available at the bar, and the drawing
will be held at the October
Convention. June 12 we will be
holding our Flag Day Ceremony and
Steak Fry. The Payson color guard will present the
flags at 4:00 p.m., followed by
dinner. The cost is $10.00, and
tickets are available at the bar.
See you at the Lodge!
Fraternally,
Sue Goodman, Your Exalted Ruler |

FROM THE STATION OF THE ESTEEMED
LEADING KNIGHT
|
|
Dear Members:
Hello, fellow Elks...
let me start off by saying I am excited to be your Esteemed
Leading Knight for the fraternal year 2010-2011. Thank you for
allowing me this opportunity to serve you. As we start a new
Lodge year with new Officers, please take the time to greet your
Officers and express your appreciation for serving you, the
members. |
|
Calling all Elks! We
are in need of an Esteemed Lecturing Knight; this is an honorable position – the
motto of this chair is Brotherly Love. If you or someone you know is interested
in representing the Payson Elks in the office of Brotherly Love (Esteemed
Lecturing Knight), please contact our Exalted Ruler, Sue Goodman, or me.
Attendance at the Lodge
meetings is down. I would like to see more members in attendance – this is your
Lodge, and you must attend the meetings to vote on various topics that are
presented to the floor. Your attendance at the business meeting on the third
Thursday of the month is needed, and your attendance at the initiation meeting
on the first Thursday would be appreciated. As members, we should be present
during the initiation ceremony, not only to welcome new members but also to
support the Officers performing the ceremony.
I look forward to seeing
you at the meetings.
Fraternally,
Paul Pfeifer, Your
Esteemed Leading Knight |

MESSAGE TO NEW MEMBERS
Congratulations on your initiation into the
Elks, and welcome to Payson Lodge #2154. I'm sure you are enjoying
being a member of this Lodge and will make many new friends.
When you became a member of this Lodge, we
donated $10.00 in your name to the Elks National Foundation. You are
not expected to repay this money, and any future donations on your part are
strictly voluntary. The Lodge took this action to acquaint you with
the Foundation and to encourage you to continue to help the Foundation in
future years.
Three outstanding qualities of the Foundation
are that it is a permanent fund, the fund is raised by voluntary gifts and
without compulsion of any kind and that the entire income from the fund is
available for charitable purposes.
The ENF supports Drug Awareness programs, Most
Valuable Student scholarship competitions, the Elks National Home, Veterans
Hospitals, Vocational Grant programs, the Hoop Shoot, and many other
extremely important charities.
Elks are encouraged to contribute $10.00 a
year, for a total of $100.00 in ten years. One may donate at a faster
rate, if so desired. We ask you to fill out a pledge card at your
convenience.
If you have any
questions, or need more information, please give us a call at (928) 474-2572.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
BECOME AN ELKS ...

|
THE SUCCESS OF
ELKDOM IS DUE TO ITS VOLUNTEERS
As you know, volunteers
are the life’s blood of your Lodge. Without volunteers,
we can’t run our Friday Night Dinners, organize and put
on special events, parties, and fundraisers, like the
annual Craft Fair, Yard Sale, Community Thanksgiving
Dinner, Children’s Christmas Shopping Spree, and many
other projects that benefit our children, our veterans,
our community, and our Lodge. Right now, Friday Night
Dinner is the most critical.
With the disbanding of
the HOPES, we are losing a number of volunteers.
We are now in a critical situation, and
desperately need more of our members, and their family
members, to step up and help.
We know some of you new
members have been called to see if you can help, and no
one got back to you. That’s because we don’t have
volunteers to call you back! If there is anything on
this page (or elsewhere in the Bulletin) that you can do
for your Lodge, please don’t hesitate to call Ev Griffin
or ER Sue Goodman at the Lodge, or stop in to discuss
how you can help. |
 |
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:
The
volunteer sign-up sheets are now on the official notices board
across the hall from the entrance to the lounge. We need 9
people on Friday Nights, and 3 on Sundays:
|
FRIDAY NIGHTS:
Cook (1)
Cook's Helpers (2)
Servers (2)
Cashier (1)
Bring Dessert (2)
Sell Dessert (1) |
SUNDAY KARAOKE:
Cook
Helper
Cashier |
|
| Can you please help our Lodge? Even one
night a month would be a great help! Please see Sue Goodman
if you have questions. |
|
FRIDAY NIGHT COOK CREW
JOB DESCRIPTIONS
-
The Cook is responsible for making the
gravies and mashed potatoes – boiling a pot of water and
stirring in the mixes – heating a vegetable, putting the
pans of chicken, baked fish, etc. in the oven and starting
them to cook, putting all entrees in the steam table when
ready. The cook also runs the deep fryer – placing the
pieces of fish, shrimp, fries etc. in the fryer and removing
them when done.
-
The Dish-Up Person looks at the order and
dips up the foods to fill that order – a baked potato, piece
of bread, veggie, fish, or other items – and then places it
in the window for the waitress.
-
The Back-Up Person helps cut up the bread,
works the ovens getting the baked chicken, fish or ribs and
putting them on a plate; refills the steam table when
potatoes, etc. get low, and is the "gofer" when items are
needed.
One or
more of these three individuals also mixes up the coleslaw and
salad and dishes it up into cups or bowls. |
