GUEST COMMENTARY

BE AN AEMP "SWEET HEART"

by:  Linda Lewandowski, Executive Director, AEMP

Good news! February 2012 is a Leap Year! That gives each of us one more day to accomplish the myriad of happenings of this very busy month. What an incredible gift!

Each year we Elks approach February with excitement since we’ll be electing new officers, planning our Fraternal Year and getting ready for that most important day dedicated to love, Valentine’s Day. Love means lots of things to each of us and can be shown in just as many

ways: a handshake, a hug, a kiss, a written message, a balloon, etc.

As Elks, we show our love and caring by supporting the future of our country: our children.

Hopefully, this year each lodge will host events supporting the Steele Children’s Research Center and Arizona Elks Youth Camp through Arizona Elks Major Projects. There are some really fun Major Projects events some lodges have made annual affairs: Christmas in July, Casino Nights, Ho-Downs, Oktoberfests, poker runs and golf tournaments, just to name a few. It is great to have a super time while supporting charity.

As Valentine’s Day approaches, it is time to pick out that message of caring. A beautiful Valentine card for your sweetie is always in order, but perhaps a gift to AEMP in honor of your special someone says even more. It’s a great way to say I love you while helping to improve the lives of Arizona’s children. It is easy – just contact the AEMP office at 520-326-0556 or toll free 888-808- 8627.

Elks Care, Elks Share is more than a slogan, it is a way of life, one that leads to our Cardinal Principle: Charity.

Thank you for your loving support for the future of our country: our children!

ELKS NATIONAL FOUNDATION

How important is it to OUR LODGE?

by:  Becky Waer, PER/Payson Lodge, ENF Chairman

I never have before donated, why do I need to now?

When you became a member of Payson Elks, the Lodge, using Bingo profits, donated $10 to the ENF in YOUR name. YES, you do BELONG!

Why does the Lodge keep asking me to donate to the Elks National Foundation? This is a very good question.

Did you know?  Payson Elks has RECEIVED:

1. Special charitable grant from ENF in the amount of $1,000. We gave $500 to “Payson Supply Line” and “Time Out Shelter”.

2. Special project grant in the amount of $2,000. Thiswent towards our Children’s Shopping Spree.

State Level - Arizona

1. Charities grants in the amount of $112,090

2. Special projects grants in the amount of $86,280

3. Bonus grants in the amount of $44,520

4. Most valuable student scholarships in the amount of $60,000

5. Legacy awards in the amount of $24,000

6. Veterans Service in the amount $10,380

I am asking for your help -- Please consider this worthwhile program to donate. Only $10 will help make the Grand Exalted Ruler's goal of $4.50 per member. Our current standing in the state is 25 out of 47 lodges. We are headed in the right direction.

Forms are available on the front table in the foyer of the lodge.
